  • Saturday, October 17th, 2009
  • Spring Mountain, Schwenksville, PA
  • 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
  • $124 Members, $129 Non-Members
  • In many ways, this may be the ultimate canopy tour experience. This “uncut” version of our original night tour covers the entire course. This is a Full Monty Tour done under the stars. The main difference is that rather than taking the chairlifts to the top, guests have the option to take a one hour heart pumping hike through the winding trails of the little seen “Dark Side” of Spring Mountain. The goal is to begin the hike at dusk, reach the summit by sunset then cool down a bit. After sunset we all put on headlamps and begin the tour. Read the zipping and high rope challenges in our daytime event. Although you should be in good to moderate health to do any tour, fitness is more critical for this one. This tour is more physically demanding than a typical Full Monty Tour because of the steep uphill hiking. Your perception of time and space will be tested as well due to the insecurity of darkness. As you approach the end of this unique adventure the ambient lights and sounds of the base lodge and outdoor Tiki Bar will invite you back to civilization. Also, you will hear some scary sounds coming from the woods since it is Halloween Season! This is a popular event, so don't wait to register and submit payment to reserve your space. Zip Line and High Ropes Challenge

  • Saturday, October 31st, 2009
  • Spring Mountain, Schwenksville, PA
  • 3:45 pm - 7:00 pm
  • $102 Members, $105 Non-Members
  • We're going all the way! Think of this adventure as a series of rope challenges, rappels and climbs separated by some world class, exciting ziplines. You begin with a few lessons at ground school before boarding the chairlift. Upon reaching the summit of Spring Mountain you will scramble thru some granite boulders (real easy)and climb up to the first platform. From this point on, you will be clipped into our safety system. From this platform you will begin your descent down three ziplines of increasing speed and intensity. At this point you are up nearly fifty feet off the ground standing on a platform surrounding a giant tulip poplar nearly four feet in diameter. It is from this platform that your first challenge begins, choosing your own level of difficulty you must cross the sixty-five foot Burma Bridge. Now you can decide how you would like to proceed. You may rappel out of the tree and walk over to our Cargo Net climbing area or you can skip the rappel and net and opt to take our newest zipline instead. Either way is exciting and both methods lead to the same destination. Next it’s across the No Hands Bridge of Doom and onto another zipline. Following this steep and speedy zip you come to the Vine Traverse Bridge. As always, there are many methods of crossing this bridge ranging from easy to extreme. Now it’s going to really get crazy. You ride down the 280 foot-long zip and thread the needle of trees whizzing by you, just feet away. Average speed on this zip is over 45MPH! Then another even steeper zip and your onto the Tyrolean Bridge. Reach up and grab the rope, pull your legs up and crawl across the traverse upside down for more than 40 feet (remember, you are still safely clipped in). Then you’re on to our Tower Zipline. This screaming 340 foot zip takes you out of the woods and into the top of our Rock Climbing Tower. From here you rappel back to the ground, remove your helmet and celebrate your experience. This is a popular event fills up quickly, so I wouldn't wait until the last day to sign up. Go to www.aawonline.com to register and submit payment to reserve you space.
  • Bring: Wear closed toe shoes and comfortable clothing (long pants preferably), long hair tied back, dangly jewelry removed. Don't forget your camera to capture those happy faces. You may bring water and snack in a pack, but you are responsible to carry it with you during the tour.

  • 11:30 am - 1:30 pm
  • $32 Members, $35 Non-Members
  • I know you must be wondering..How does one combine ariels with yoga? Good question. Appropriately named "VaihAyasa" meaning, “being or moving in the air, suspended in the air, sky-dwellers". Now don't get nervous. You're only a few feet off the ground.

Aerial yoga allows you to move through the same basic elements of a floor practice (pranayama, asanas, savasana), accept that you will be elevated in the fabric/hammock or using the fabric for alignment for the entire class. Some postures will involve only partial support from the hammock, while others will require complete trust in the fabric as it supports 100% of the body weight taking pressure off your spine, neck and joints, making the movements much easier and kinder to your body.

These hammocks hold up to 1000 lbs. So join us for this 2 hour workshop where it will allow you to clear your mind, shifting to becoming open, aware and present in a fun and playful manner, bringing out your inner child and wanting more.

First lucky 10 to register, will have the joy of experiencing this event, located between N.2nd & 3rd, behind Cafe Ole.

Then join us afterwards for a bite to eat and share conversations about your experience. Or while we're near Rittenhouse Square, GO SHOPPING!!

Bring a large towel or thick sweatshirt for padding until you are used to the feeling of the fabric. Do not use hand lotion or sunscreen before class. Do not wear jewelry, belts, or clothing with grommets, gems, or anything that could potentially snag the fabric. Avoid lose shorts or very baggy clothing. Make sure your leggings are opaque. Please trim your finger and toenails. Eating or drinking is never recommended before yoga, but it is particularly important with Aerial. Avoid eating or drinking acidic liquids an hour prior to class. Please observe good personal hygiene and wear deodorant in consideration for the next person using the hammock.

Can this diverse threesome work together to survive the grueling hike from Georgia to Maine? Or will they crumble from the challenge? Filled with drama, laughs, and surprises, "BEAUTY BENEATH THE DIRT" takes a profound look at how three young people are affected by one of the most challenging outdoor adventures in existence today.

We all dream of leaving our lives for some big adventure. But if we did ... would it be worth the risk? Beauty Beneath the Dirt follows the story of "The Traveling Circus" as they attempt to balance family, friendship, and personal happiness while hiking from Georgia to Maine on the Appalachian Trail.

By capturing the highs and lows of trail life, this honest, touching, and very personal story paints a raw and uncensored picture of how long-distance hiking can affect the mind, body, and soul. Leaving its audience both satisfied and hungry for more, BEAUTY BENEATH THE DIRT is a one-of-a-kind documentary that cannot be missed.

I have spoken with Kate (Katherine) personally and just hearing some of the brief experiences this trio shared, was amazing. I thought you would be inspired and awed by their journey. So come and listen, watch and ask questions.

You never know where YOUR next journey will take you.

Come join us for a screening of Beauty Beneath the Dirt. Katherine "Ringleader" Imp (director, producer, cast) will be present for an after-screening Q&A!!!

FREE admission, but a $5.00 donation is appreciated.

E-mail me with your attendance so I can keep track of our guest at michelle@aawonline.com We look forward to sharing a dynamic and touching evening together.

CAR CLUE RALLY

  • Sunday, December 2nd, 2012
  • Bucks County, PA
  • 10:30 am - 2:00 pm
  • $30 Members, $35 Non-Members
  • Come join us on our first ever "Car Clue Rally" Think of it as a scavenger hunt where you don't have to get out of your car.

You and your partner will be driving through the rolling hills and valleys of Upper Bucks County, on about 60 miles of a wide variety of roads from highways to scenic narrow byways and across 5 famous picturesque covered bridges.

Map reading is not involved. However, reading and following clues written in a "rally shorthand" and answering questions along the way is the definition of a clue rally.

The rally begins and ends in Quakertown. At the end of the rally, we will all meet at a restaurant (which is yet to be determined), to rehash your experiences with your teammate and other participants. Eating and drinking will be at own cost.

    SOME IMPORTANT DETAILS:

    - The rally will be scored.

    - Penalty points will be calculated depending on accuracy of mileage and correct answers.

    - Each registration entry will consist of a driver and a navigator.

    - Only one needs to register. Two for the price of one!

    - Only 2 People per car. See below. If you would like to do the rally, but can't find a friend to share the driving or navigating, you can indicate your desire to find a driver or navigator by e-mailing me at michelle@aawonline.com

ONLY 2 PEOPLE TO A CAR. NO EXCEPTIONS. Little ones are a distraction and you will have enough going on that additional distractions could be a safety issue. Older kids or adults would be able to help during the rally and that wouldn't be fair to others with only 2 in a car.

Please respect our "2 PEOPLE PER CAR" policy. No rally instructions will be provided if this takes place when you show up and no refund will be given. And remember, ONLY 20 cars for this event (2 people per car.

And MOST IMPORTANTLY, the winner of the rally will be the team that has the fewest penalty points and they will be awarded a modest prize. And there is a special award for the last place winners.

This event will take place rain or shine. Only snow would cancel the event.
  • Bring: 1. A sense of humor. You more than likely will make mistakes. Laugh at them. There once was a navigator that got so excited when she spotted the answer to a question that she literally threw her instructions out the window when she pointed to the answer.

    2. A car, van, SUV or pickup (no bigger) with a functioning odometer that reads to the tenth of a mile. Without this, the rally cannot be scored accurately. Read AAW Rally Definitions and Rules document to be provided at registration.

    3. Both a driver and a navigator and no one else. A driver can't do everything safely and 3 is a crowd.

    4. A clipboard or its equivalent to write on.

    5. Pens and/or pencils

    6. Snack and beverages.

And remember, ONLY 25 cars for this event (2 people per car). That makes it 50 people.

And MOST IMPORTANTLY, the winner of the rally will be the team that has the fewest penalty points and they will be awarded a modest prize.

When you arrive, please park in the parking lot behind the First Savings bank located between Lowes and Wawa on Rt 309 in Quakertown, on the east side of 309. Park in succession as you enter the parking lot with the front of your cars facing toward the lot.

This event will take place rain or shine.

Bring: 1.

    6. Snack and beverages
  • Bring: Your spirit of adventure.

Firewalking (all invited)

  • Sunday, April 14th, 2013
  • 13117 Collins School Road, Felton, PA
  • 2:30 pm - 7:00 pm
  • $95 Members, $100 Non-Members
  • Come join Andrew Steed an experienced International Sundoor Master Firewalk Practitioner as he shares the transformational work of Firewalking.

Come walk through the fears and life long patterns that have held us back, the resistance that holds us from our highest potential.

Firewalking is an ancient tradition practiced around the globe since before recorded time. A transformative and life changing experience for all who attend whether you walk the fire orwitness others on their walk. Come and follow in the footsteps of the ancestors.

As the fire burns to hot coals we will experience a participatory workshop where we look at our lives and our belief systems, we will identify what we need to ‘Break Through’ and through experiential learning we will raise our energy levels and prepare ourselves to walk or witness the fire. There is no coercion to walk the fire, we all receive beyond measure by being present with ourselves and the fire.

Break an arrow or bend rebar with your throat. Hard to believe, but very possible. I did! And you can too. Just being in Andrews presence and listening to him is invigorating and exciting.

Must be 18 years old, otherwise a guardian or parent must be present to sign a release form on the day of the workshop.

We will try to carpool since its a drive for some. Let me know if you are interested in the carpool when registering.
  • Bring: Yourself. A blanket to sit on. Some water and a snack if you like.
