The Heart of Darkness Zip Line and High Rope Challenge

  • Saturday, October 17th, 2009
  • Spring Mountain, Schwenksville, PA
  • 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
  • $124 Members, $129 Non-Members
  • In many ways, this may be the ultimate canopy tour experience. This “uncut” version of our original night tour covers the entire course. This is a Full Monty Tour done under the stars. The main difference is that rather than taking the chairlifts to the top, guests have the option to take a one hour heart pumping hike through the winding trails of the little seen “Dark Side” of Spring Mountain. The goal is to begin the hike at dusk, reach the summit by sunset then cool down a bit. After sunset we all put on headlamps and begin the tour. Read the zipping and high rope challenges in our daytime event. Although you should be in good to moderate health to do any tour, fitness is more critical for this one. This tour is more physically demanding than a typical Full Monty Tour because of the steep uphill hiking. Your perception of time and space will be tested as well due to the insecurity of darkness. As you approach the end of this unique adventure the ambient lights and sounds of the base lodge and outdoor Tiki Bar will invite you back to civilization. Also, you will hear some scary sounds coming from the woods since it is Halloween Season! This is a popular event, so don't wait to register and submit payment to reserve your space. Go to www.aawonline.com
  • Bring: Wear closed toe shoes and comfortable clothing (long pants preferably), long hair tied back, dangly jewelry removed. Don't forget your camera to capture those happy faces. You may bring water and snack in a pack, but you are responsible to carry it with you during the tour.

Zip Line and High Ropes Challenge

  • Saturday, October 31st, 2009
  • Spring Mountain, Schwenksville, PA
  • 3:45 pm - 7:00 pm
  • $102 Members, $105 Non-Members
  • We're going all the way! Think of this adventure as a series of rope challenges, rappels and climbs separated by some world class, exciting ziplines. You begin with a few lessons at ground school before boarding the chairlift. Upon reaching the summit of Spring Mountain you will scramble thru some granite boulders (real easy)and climb up to the first platform. From this point on, you will be clipped into our safety system. From this platform you will begin your descent down three ziplines of increasing speed and intensity. At this point you are up nearly fifty feet off the ground standing on a platform surrounding a giant tulip poplar nearly four feet in diameter. It is from this platform that your first challenge begins, choosing your own level of difficulty you must cross the sixty-five foot Burma Bridge. Now you can decide how you would like to proceed. You may rappel out of the tree and walk over to our Cargo Net climbing area or you can skip the rappel and net and opt to take our newest zipline instead. Either way is exciting and both methods lead to the same destination. Next it’s across the No Hands Bridge of Doom and onto another zipline. Following this steep and speedy zip you come to the Vine Traverse Bridge. As always, there are many methods of crossing this bridge ranging from easy to extreme. Now it’s going to really get crazy. You ride down the 280 foot-long zip and thread the needle of trees whizzing by you, just feet away. Average speed on this zip is over 45MPH! Then another even steeper zip and your onto the Tyrolean Bridge. Reach up and grab the rope, pull your legs up and crawl across the traverse upside down for more than 40 feet (remember, you are still safely clipped in). Then you’re on to our Tower Zipline. This screaming 340 foot zip takes you out of the woods and into the top of our Rock Climbing Tower. From here you rappel back to the ground, remove your helmet and celebrate your experience. This is a popular event fills up quickly, so I wouldn't wait until the last day to sign up. Go to www.aawonline.com to register and submit payment to reserve you space.
  • Bring: Wear closed toe shoes and comfortable clothing (long pants preferably), long hair tied back, dangly jewelry removed. Don't forget your camera to capture those happy faces. You may bring water and snack in a pack, but you are responsible to carry it with you during the tour.
